Wobble Balance Boards (also known as Wobble Boards) are traditionally used in Waldorf classrooms. They have been around for more than 20 years and is a simple, elegant and beautifully crafted rocking balancing board.
They are versatile, unique and promotes open-ended play. You may be worried that your child may quickly outgrow the Wobble Balance Board, but when you watch a child use the board, you can see how it’s much more than just a wooden balancing wobble board.
Let’s explore how you can extend the use of the wobble balance board for your child, beyond just being a mere balancing toy.
Gross Motor Balancing
The main use of the wobble balance board is for… balancing! This is great for a child as they begin to learn about their bodies and pushing the boundaries of their abilities. The wobble balance board provides a safe space for a child to balance and explore their proprioceptive sense. As they wobble back and forth on the wobble balance board, a child needs to control their body and train their vestibular system to maintain balance.
Needless to say, it also provides a great indoor outlet for building gross motor skills (especially for those days when you have no choice but to be indoors!).
Open Ended Play
The wobble balance board really goes beyond being just a wobble balancing toy. It’s simplicity allows a child to use it in so many ways. It can be a ramp or half pipe for toy cars, a bridge for a little town, a tunnel for boats, and so much more!
The only limit is your imagination. And trust us. Your child’s imagination far surpasses our own.
Table & Chair
Children love working on the floor, but sometimes, we worry about their posture and comfort. A wobble balance board is versatile enough to be a table (or chair!) for those times when they need a little height to work on. Transform play time into quiet time just by flipping your wobble balance board over!
Climbing Frame
If you have a toddler at home who loves to move, a wobble balance board is great as a low and safe climbing structure.
Slide
We know every child needs a slide in the house! Just flip your wobble balance board over and place it off your couch or sofa and there you have it - an improvised slide!
Quiet Time Rocker
And when it's time to rest, throw on some pillows and rock on the wobble balance board. Absolutely calming and perfect after a busy afternoon of play!
